Self-Driving Cars:

I am sure by now you have heard the news about all these companies investing in self-driving cars. I don’t know if we should be scared or embrace the new technology that this world is building. On the other hand, how exhilarating would it be to drive a few hours but not physically drive? One thing I heard a few days ago is they are bringing the same technology from the self-driving cars to self-driving wheelchairs. I think the self-driving wheelchairs are a great idea myself for people who suffer with illnesses who prevent them from using their arms. If you are not so sure about this idea, there are many used autos in Hayward, so don’t feel like you have to buy a self-driving car right when they hit the market.

If you haven’t heard the news it’s already been operating in Phoenix, with numerous testing mini vans driving around the city. The company Waymo began testing its vehicles way back in 2015. Waymo for those of you who are not familiar with this company is affiliated with Google. Since April they have been driving around people in their self-driving cars but they released some information saying the driver of their vehicles is about to come out and people will be getting rides from a driverless car. It’s hard to comprehend the safety measure that comes along with this. I guess the years and years of testing will hopefully pay off.

There are still some issues this company is trying to figure out and one is the insurance. How does insurance work for the passengers in the car with no driver? What will the insurance cover? Also, what territory will these vehicles cover? Another worry is someone who is a little tense during the ride and feels the urge to jump into the driver’s seat when they start to panic. However, I am sure if people are skeptical of this new driving service, they will not jump into a car like this right off the bat.

Uber is another company that wants in on these self-driving cars. However if there will be a lot of self driving cars out there, will this take over the Uber industry or will companies be selling these cars individually? I think the whole Uber self-driving cars are a great idea, because riding with strangers can sometimes be a little scary. You never know what you’re getting into when you jump into that vehicle. I think people will feel more secure getting into a self-driving car then a car with a stranger.

We have learned throughout the years in the automobile industry, how important it is to stay up to date with technology. This is just reiterating everything over again. You can see since the first vehicle was made how amazing technology has advanced the different vehicles and to leave us with a self-driving car is out of this world. What’s it going to be like in 20 years? What can you possible update after a self-driving car?
